Fizz setlist 5/14/2007

I originally posted this on Windyhop here. Starting at 9:30 p.m. on 5/24/2007.
  1. Baby Won't You Please Come Home? - Topsy Chapman And The Pros - Putumayo Presents: New Orleans - 5:07
  2. Goody, Goody - Ella Fitzgerald - Something To Live For (Disc 1) - 2:31
(Folks start to show up. Initially it's one follower and three guys.)
  3. It's Only A Paper Moon - Oscar Peterson - With Respect To Nat - 2:32
  4. A Sailboat In The Moonlight - Billie Holiday - A Musical Romance - 2:51
  5. Sweet Georgia Brown - Alberta Hunter - Amtrak Blues - 4:12
  6. All Of Me - Louis Armstrong - Louis Armstrong - 3:34
(One of the leads asks the follower to dance. They do east coast. I follow up with a song that I guess someone might be familiar with from an intro swing class.)
  7. All Right, Okay, You Win - Joe Williams - The Definitive Joe Williams - 3:05
  8. Summit Ridge Drive - Buddy DeFranco - Plays Artie Shaw - 4:35
  9. Let Me Off Uptown - Roy Eldridge - Little Jazz - 3:24
(More people have shown up. There are probably 8 couples dancing.)
  10. Blues For Stephanie - George Gee - Swingin - 4:15
  11. Jump & Shout - Erline Harris - For Jumpers Only! - 2:19
(People respond well to Jump & Shout. I decide to follow up with several more jump blues tracks.)

  12. Teardrops From My Eyes - Ruth Brown - Rockin' In Rhythm - 2:59
  13. Good Rockin' Tonight - Jack McDuff & Jimmy Witherspoon - The Blues Is Now - 2:17
(The next song is my transition into a more classic-swing mood.)
  14. Thursday Evening Swing - Cats & The Fiddle - We Cats Will Swing For You - 2:28
  15. For Dancers Only - Jimmie Lunceford - Jimmie Lunceford - 2:41
  16. Sing Me a Swing Song (And Let Me Dance) - Benny Goodman - The Birth of Swing - 2:23
(I see several couples doing the balboa during this song. I intend to follow up with another bal-friendly track. However, before I can select one, the last track ends and ITunes moves to the next track in my cue.)

  17. Dippermouth blues - Muggsy Spanier - Weary Blues - 2:29
(This song kills the floor - too sudden a transition into a very janky, uptempo Charleston. One couple dances, plus a few girls in the corner doing Charleston. To recover and try and draw everyone back onto the floor, I go with a mid-tempo blues track that still has an "old-timey" feel.)
  18. On Revival Day - Lavern Baker - Precious Memories / LaVern Sings Bessie Smith - 3:16
  19. Keepin' Out A Mishif Now - Carling Family - 20th Jubilee - 3:32
(Transitioning to more a more laid-back feel. Tracks 19 and 20 feature trumpets, as does the introduction to track 21.)
  20. Moon Song - Louis Armstrong & Oscar Peterson - Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson - 4:37
  21. Solid As A Rock - Ella Fitzgerald - Swingin' Ella - 3:00
  22. Like It Is - Erroll Garner - That's My Kick & Gemini - 2:44
  23. They Can't Take That Away From Me - Sarah Vaughan - Ken Burns Jazz - 2:43
(I want to start building intensity - Mack the Knife starts laid back and builds.)
  24. Mack The Knife - Ella Fitzgerald - Mack The Knife: The Complete Ella In Berlin - 4:39
(Track 24 is off a live album, so there's no pause between tracks. ITunes jumps directly into Track 25, with no silence in between. It seems to catch people by surprise, and I'm afraid my build is too steep.)
  25. Who Ya Hunchin'? - Chick Webb - Jazz After Hours - 2:55
  26. Me, Myself And I - Billie Holiday - A Musical Romance - 2:37
  27. Streamliner - The Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra - Introducing Dorothy Dandridge - 3:49
(In retrospect, I think I should have skipped Streamliner and gone straight to Love Me or Leave Me.)

  28. Love Me or Leave Me - Peggy Lee - Black Coffee - 2:10
  29. At Long Last Love - Bill Henderson - Bill Henderson With the Oscar Peterson Trio - 2:30
(I thought that this last transition worked nicely. Even though the styles are drastically different, they are tied together by the prominent piano.)
  30. One O'Clock Jump - Count Basie - Swinging The Blues: 1930-1939 - 3:03
(Lippy makes announcements and takes over...)
