Fizz setlist 6/15/2009

It's been ages (well, maybe 3 or 4 weeks) since Mary and I last showed up at Fizz, so I was excited to go and dance to Chris Aubin's music, then mouse jockey some of my own. It was a fun night, if I do say so myself. A couple out-of-towners showed....they finally got the air conditioning fired up... and a lot of women showed up, so I danced a lot, even after I started djing. (Tut tut!)

Here's my set list (bpm sparkline and distribution). Chris Aubin had the early set, and I took over at 11 with a birthday jam:
  1. Hello, Dolly! - Louis Armstrong - Ken Burns Jazz - 2:24 - 155 (birthday jam)
  2. Perdido Street Blues - Louis Armstrong - The Complete Decca Studio Master Takes - 3:08 - 145
  3. Oh I'm Evil - Una Mae Carlisle - Una Mae Carlisle: 1938-1941 - 2:25 - 150
  4. Lady Be Good - Svend Asmussen - Musical Miracle Vol. 1: 1935-40 - 2:56 - 180 (There was some sort of sound malfunction after this song, so I grabbed my iPod and hit play on the first jazz tune I could find.)
  5. Ain't Misbehavin' - Kermit Ruffins - Putumayo Presents: Kermit Ruffins - 4:36 - 140

  8. Shotgun Boogie - Paul Tillotson the Love Trio - Lindy Hop Blues - 2:55 - 165

  10. I Ain't Got Nothin' But The Blues - Ella Fitzgerald & Duke Ellington - Compact Jazz - 4:42 - 85
  11. You’ve Got To See Mama Ev’ry Night - Kay Starr - Kay Starr: the Best of The Standard Transcriptions - 1:57 - 127 (A good part of the crowd there at 11:30 seemed to want blues and slower lindy, so I try to oblige.)

  13. Home To Mississippi - Otis Spann - Otis Spann: Best Of The Vanguard Years - 3:30 - 130
  14. My Bucket's Got A Hole In It - Papa Bues Viking Jazz Band - Live In Copenhagen - 3:36 - 135 (Tried to intersperse the bluesy/slow stuff with a couple of faster ones, to try to keep the energy in the room up.)
  15. San Francisco Bay Blues - Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band - Blues Over Bodega - 3:41 - 160
  16. Put A Lid On It - Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hot - 2:39 - 198

  24. Soothe Me - The Simms Twins - Sam Cooke's SAR Records Story: 1959 - 1965 (Disc 2) - 2:17 - 110 (Everyone seemed ready for Sam Cooke. Would have played another one in a similar vein, but I put it in the wrong playlist and then got distracted.)
  25. Keepin' Out A Mishif Now - Carling Family - 20th Jubilee - 3:32 - 120
  26. Taking a Chance on Love - Anita O'Day - Anita Sings the Most - 2:24 - 135
